FAQ

Who is behind this…

My name is Hans. I am the one behind all this and I live in Switzerland. I am not affiliated with any organizations or research communities and I am doing this project in my spare time out of curiosity. And since I’ve been asked about it a couple of times : No, I don’t have synesthesia.

The illustrator for the book is Andreea. She has a background in illustration for children and Korean traditional painting, with a passion for creative communication, visual storytelling and everything alternative or out of the ordinary. To find out more, please refer to her behance portfolio link.

Why…

I believe the possibilities of the human mind are incredible… and also incredibly hard to communicate. Especially for people who don’t have synesthesia. They can rarely appreciate what synaesthetes perceive. To bridge this gap, I started this project.

Then there is also the remote hope that some of the visualizations of synesthetes’ perceptions might be useful for others to better remember numbers or dates. Kind of like mnemonics on steroids.

And because it is always fun to learn something new and help others to see the world with different eyes.

When…

The project is still in its early stages. Depending on how quickly I find synaesthetes who are willing to share their perceptions with other, I hope to have a first draft of the book in the first half of this year (2016).

Where…

There is no geographical limitation for those who are interested to contribute. I kept the page in English to have the best possible reach.

What comes next…

I will try to keep you posted about the progess of the project in irregular post. Soon to come.

How does it work…

Please refer to the process page and the about page.

How many people have some form of synesthesia…

One in 2000 people has synesthesia which is more likely for left-handers and females (source) but since people often are not even aware of their special gift, statistics vary considerably (source).
